IKEA work for Refugees

The Refugee Council and IKEA are working in partnership to support the employment of refugees. This is an opportunity for refugees to access paid work placements at the IKEA store in Leeds.  After completing a 4-day online course, participants will visit the IKEA store, have a guided tour and a short interview. Successful participants will be put forward for a paid 8-week work placement with IKEA.

IKEA Placements:

  • 8-week paid placement with IKEA
  • Successful applicants will receive a check in at week 2, 5 and 8 with their advisor & manager
  • Placements will usually be in the market hall, self-serve or parcel team, participants can discuss their skills and aspirations in their interview
  • Participants not selected for placements will continue to receive support from their advisers

Jan/Feb 2022 course:

Monday 31st January 2022  12pm – 2pm (Zoom)

Wednesday 2nd February 2022 12pm – 2pm (Zoom)

Monday 7th February 2022 12pm – 2pm (Zoom) Will include presentation from IKEA

Wednesday 9th February 2022 12pm – 2pm (Zoom)

Store tours and interviews:  To be confirmed

Eligibility criteria:

  • Refugee status with permission to work
  • Living in Leeds or surrounding areas
  • English Entry level 3 or above

Must be able to travel to the IKEA Leeds store if successful.
